QAW recognizes that all students learn through different modalities and at different rates. Learning Support (LS) services at QAW are designed to address the individual strengths and needs of each child and maximize students’ learning potential. We have Arabic and English speaking staff in the LS department in order to facilitate the needs of students learning in a dual immersion language program. The LS team provides support in academics, social emotional development and health. In addition to providing direct student services, LS staff provides professional development and resources to all staff as well as parents.
Response to Intervention Model
To reach its vision of providing the highest possible standards of education where students can develop to their full potential to positively impact their community and the world, QAW has implemented the Response to Intervention (RTI) model, which integrates assessment and intervention within a multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and to reduce behavior problems. With RTI, schools identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes, monitor student progress, provide evidence-based interventions and adjust intensity and nature to those interventions depending on a student’s responsiveness, and identify students with learning disabilities or other disabilities.
At QAW the RTI process has three purposes:
1. To review grade-level behavior and academic data in order to evaluate the effectiveness of core programs.
2. To screen and identify students needing additional academic and/or behavior support
3. To plan, implement and modify interventions for these students. Depending on each student’s response to intervention, a formal referral for learning support evaluation may result.
